New Jersey Cup is Already Underway

New_Jersey_State_Cup_2013The New Jersey Cup, US Club’s state tournament has a first round deadline of April 2nd, but a number of games have already been played.

Those managers were smart because many teams are resorting to week day games ahead of Easter and Spring Breaks.  Some even looking into the possibility of playing indoors, which tournament Director Bob Kuzbyt addressed in email this week.

Here are a look at a few first and second round matchups and results of games that were already played.

U13 Boys Premier GroupGPS 05B South 4-2 win over FC Copa 05B Black South

  • Academies battle, and GPS wins the chance to take on a very experienced Harrison Huskies team (GS #21)

  • One of 6 Cedar Stars teams at this age group in NJ earned a shot at #3 ranked FC Copa Black

U18/19 Boys – This group has already been very busy

  • Jersey Knights 2-0 over Warren United
  • Neptune in PK’s over Vorhees
  • Kearny 3-2 over Bergenfield
  • STA-MUSC 3-1 over Arsenal Maximus
  • MonroeLOGOJersey Shore Boca (pic below) in PK’s over Piscataway
  • Jersey Crew 4-1 over FC Broncos
  • Monroe Township 2-1 over Edison
  • WSC Elite 1-0 over Princeton FC
  • Clifton Stallions 5-1 over Montclair
  • SJEB Rush 2-1 over Rancocas Valley


U12 Girls Group –  West Morris SC 3-2 win over NJ Stallions

  • A little upset here with the first division EDP team taking down and NPL opponent

U14 Girls Premier Group-  Cherry Hill Tiger Sharks 2-1 win over Franklin Township


  • The second team in Cherry Hill gets a nice win against an accomplished FTYSA team in a battle of municipalities.  The bad news here is they now have a 1 hour and 45 minute trip to West Morris for game 2!

U17 Girls Premier Group-  Wall Tsunami 1-0 win over FCUSA 

  • Battle tested team from Wall moves on to play Jersey United Spartans which makes GS ranked #38 meet GS ranked #35.

  1. Does NJYS have restrictions on when clubs can hold tryouts for 2018-2019. Some state associations do not allow tryouts until after state cup is completed. Obviously that is not case in NJ.
