NJ Cup Kicks Off This Weekend – Maybe

The New Jersey Cup has 12 opening round games scheduled for this weekend Thursday 3/2-Sunday 3/5, but the question remains, will March weather allow them to kick off?  We have been spoiled early this week with great temperatures and sunny skies, but that is not going to last…

New Jersey will see 75 degree weather Wednesday (3/1), but with the possibility of strong storms on the way.  Then the March – NJ wind blows in, and will drop the temps to a high of 50 degrees as soon as Thursday (3/2).  That followed by the possibility of AM rain/snow on Friday (3/3) means games will be in jeopardy of kicking off.  Turf fields will definitely help (and most of the fields listed are), but highs in the mid 40’s and wind will make for difficult playing conditions regardless of how dry it will remain.

Here is a list of games that open up the NJ Cup this weekend:

1st Game is scheduled March 2nd in the U18/19 girls bracket.  With 5 games on the boys side and 7 on the girls.

  • U11B – FC Copa Black vs. SJEB Bayern – March 5th – Rowan University
  • U12B – SJEB 05 Man Utd vs. FC Copa Black 05 South – March 4th – Rowan University
  • U13B – MatchFit Barcelona vs. Pasco Rebels – March 5th – Mercer County CC
  • U14B – Jersey Crew Panthers vs. Jersey United Spartans – March 4th – Morristown

  • U12G – Howell United vs. Westfield FC Toluca – March 4th – Soldier Memorial
  • U16G – SJEB Rush Premier vs. FC Sportika Solo – March 3rd – Glouchester
  • U18/19G – Westfield Rage vs. JET Galaxy – March 2nd – Houlihan Field
  • U18/19G – Next Level 99 vs. Union Lady Dragons 98 – March 3rd – Pennington

Final Notes:

The U12G bracket will see 3 games played with some powerful clubs matching up.  SJEB has a fantastic scheduler, because they always seem on top of their game and have 4 games on opening weekend!  Jersey United have U14 and U15 boys starting their season off early.  While FC Copa has the U11 and U12 boys also playing on back to back days against SJEB at Rowan University.  Good luck to all participants and hopefully the weather cooperates for these early season games to get under way!
