EDP Easter Showcase 2016 – Preview

Those coaches crazy enough, as myself, to take their team to a tournament on Easter Weekend (as well as Spring Break week for many NJ school districts) are at least happy that they don’t have to travel too far due to the quality at the EDP Easter Showcase.  Set at the sod farm in Hammonton, NJ, the boys and girls U15-U19 soccer tournament hosts many top teams from our home state looking for early season success.  Played on Good Friday and Saturday, everyone at least has the holiday off, but I give a lot of credit to all those soccer parents that are making the effort to get their kid to training and games this weekend and not just heading for warmer climates and hunting for eggs.

I have gone through the flights and picked out some top teams, games, and brackets to follow this weekend.  I will be there with my U15G Mercer FC Santos and am looking forward to catching some of the competition between contests, so if you think I should head to your field for a game, or would like me to review your team or contest on njtravelsoccerblog.com, let me know via email at contact@njtravelsoccerblog.com!

Games to Watch:

U15 Boys MLS Cup: MatchFit Academy Black vs SJEB 00 6PM Friday on Field 15  MatchFit Academy who is very strongly represented this weekend on the boys side take on SJEB on their home field.

U16 Boys Nationale A:  East Brunswick SC United vs. Logan SC Blackjacks 4:50PM Friday on Field 22  In what may be the toughest bracket of the weekend on the boys side, two top 10 GotSoccer ranked teams square off.  They met in Bethesda in the Fall which resulted in a 1-1 draw, so I am sure both teams will find define this game as critical following disappointments in trips to Jefferson Cup and APC Premier Cup respectively.

U16 Boys Nationale A:  MatchFit Academy Black vs. St-Hubert Spatial (CND) 3:40PM Friday on Field 13  The GotSoccer ranked #2 team in the state MatchFit Black who were champions at the Jefferson Cup 2 weeks ago and are coming off a win against NJ Force Aresenal in their EDP league kickoff last week are in great form against a team from Canada.  The teams that travel from our neighbor from the North are always quality and this is a game I would have my eye on if I was in the area.

U17 Boys FIFA World Cup:  STA Morris United NPL vs. Fusion FC Fire (PAE) 10:50AM Saturday on Field 15  I have a feeling this game is going to decide who gets to the final with a top NJ club in STA Morris battling against what I am sure is a physical club from Eastern PA.

U18/Boys Prfreeholdemiership:  Freehold SL Phantoms vs. SoccerScout USA SSUSA (UK) Saturday 9:35AM on Field 16  The NJ Cup champ (Freehold) from a year ago squares off with a team from Great Britain!!!!!!  That is a game you need to see and hopefully our New Jersey boys can show these footballers why we call it soccer stateside.  Curse the schedulers for my coaching conflict at this time.
U15 Girls Ruby:  STA Morris United 00 vs. Toms River Independent Revolution Friday 1:15PM on Field 33  This is where I know quite a bit about the age group and this will undoubtedly be a very well played game.  Both teams play physical, but are very technical with the ability to play with pace.  It will be cranked up a notch as it is the first game for both teams trying to set the standard for the weekend.

U16 Girls Diamond:  Mercer FC Magic vs. FC Berna Legacy Friday 10:50AM on Field 6 Once again, feel free to beat me up for including a home club team in Mercer FC Magic in my recap, but there is a legitimate story line here.  Head coaches Nick Harrison and Mike Williams used to coach together and no one another well.  So I am sure their girls will get an extra bit of motivational tactics out of their skippers before this game.

U17 Girls Diamond Final: 2:25PM Saturday on Field 8 Whoever emerges from this strong group will definitely combine for a great contest that undoubtedly will feature some future college soccer players.  College coaches, I hope you are headed here!

U17 Girls Ruby:  Greater Flemington Strykers vs. Union SC Lady Dragons Friday 8:25AM on Field 6  I always like to highlight New Jersey township club teams playing at a high level and that is what we have here.  This game forecasts to be wet and and windy so good luck to the coaches looking to motivate your kids following a 5:30AM wakeup and a 90 minute car ride!

U18/19 Girls Diamond:  FC Copa Sevilla vs. Jersey Knights Daggers Friday 4:50PM on Field 2  These two clubs geographically are very close and a meeting down at Tuckahoe we can properly name “The Battle of the Brunswicks” will be entertaining and chippy.
