The MAPS Spring Challenge (Boys Edition) concluded this weekend 3/12 & 3/13 with some fireworks. With 17o+ high level teams from New Jersey and Region 1 this tournament finished with some tremendous championship games. If you followed the preview on njtravelsoccerblog.com I hope you recognized that many of the featured teams and games did not disappoint! Champions from NJ included Mercer FC Leverkusen U9, Middletown SC Lightning Red U11, Moorestown SC Galaxy U12, Jackson SC Red Bulls U13, NJ Stallions Academy 01/02 U14, Bridgewater SA Panthers U14, Den of Lions Mustangs U16, Americas United Bayern Munich U17, and Princeton FC U18/19.
Featured Brackets Did Not Disappoint!
The U11 9v9 MAPS and U13 MAPS groups were extremely competitive with the many of the teams in early season form. Middletown SC Lightning U11B showed township clubs can compete with the best of them and maybe fought through the most difficult road to the title of any team in the tournament. A draw against the top team in CT opened play for the Lightning, and they followed it with 3 straight wins and 22 total goals to take home the medals!
In the U13 MAPS bracket, Jackson SC Red Bulls put on a clinic against maybe the deepest bracket in the tournament. After winning their first 2 games 4-0 and 4-1, they toppled Manalapan SC Nitro 3-2 (GS 3) in what was essentially a semi-final game and then followed it up with a Finals victory over Cherry Hill SC Scorpions (GS 4) 2-1 in thrilling fashion! There are some serious GotSoccer points on the way for that performance, congratulations to the players and coaches.
U14B MAPS Bracket was no slouch itself, with the Finals featuring NJ Stallions (GS 5) vs. NJCSA Bayern (GS 6) and it ended narrowly 3-2 in favor of the Stallions. I would love to hear the story of that game in the comment section!
- Featured Team U16 Boys Den of Lions (GS 2) won their bracket, but not as convincingly as one would have imagined. Kudos to their opponents Rancocas Valley SC Blaze and North Plainfield SC Cosmos for giving them all they can handle.
- Got to shout out my club! Mercer FC Leverkusen U9B went undefeated in their 4 games in the U9/U10 bracket. Finishing with an exciting 5-4 win in the Finals against Matchfit Holmdel who was also undefeated until that point. What a game that must have been, any details on the game? Comment Please!
- Princeton FC won the big boys bracket in the U18/19 group, not letting the medals go home to Maryland with a narrow 3-2 win over a SAC club that always produces talent.
